You shapin the way you are as you study at school
Cus in the place that we be livin you gotta follow the rules
and when you payin your dues, trust the good will come after
For now, this book is open with the start of your chapter
and I'll never forget the kids with no father or mother
Who could be livin' a step behind tryin to hang with the others
I see the troubles and the burdens that they live day to day
Here to remind you little kids just continue to pray
Waking up early just to hurry with a long day ahead
Doing the studies with the buddies with the homework you dread
And then school is over... but your energy's shot
Now you gotta go see the tutor for all the things you forgot
Reading stories, writing papers, doing homework galore
By the time you head on home there's a whole lot more
music lessons, swimming practice or to help prepare dinner
This the life of a kid that's working it hard to be a winner

And what about the kids with those siblings who bother
Distracting me while trying to study always improper
Mommy can you tell them im trying to work?
Daddy can you tell them my feelings are hurt?
They bother me, they screamin but I'm just trying to study
They making me go crazy Why you letting them bug me?
I feel the added pressure just to get the good grades
And i hardly have the time to eat the food from my plate

Keep your head up little trooper I use to do what you did
There were times I would question how I was able to live
Makin the grades and all the other stuff to keepin me movin'
They would tell me if I stop I'll be lazy and losin'
Taking these problems off to church after class to just work
Even on Saturdays and Sundays I would mentally hurt
Never forget the crazy fights when the family is mad
It can take you to a place where you'll be stressin and sad
Heavenly Father can you help the little kids to be strong
With the life that they be livin they just have to move on
Makin a change to get you workin, let your intellect grow
Cus there's so many things to learn that you children should know
I been livin that kind of life and I remember the burden
But the answer to the strain is the minister's sermon
Learn to rise within the struggle, seek Christ in all you do
And work hard, cus God is watching and He'll get you through
